John tells us about the experience of accessing free, confidential talking therapies with Insight IAPT.

Video Transcription

John: I found it really easy to make a referral. They contacted me a couple of days after filling the form on the website to book in for an assessment. I’ve been feeling really down and worried for a while, and work was really stressing me out. They sent me a link to some information that I could use to help prepare, and it explained how to fill out the measures.

When they called me for the assessment, the practitioner that I spoke to really did make me feel at ease. I felt that she really listened to what I was going through and at the end of it, she explained what my options were and how they could help me. She was friendly, understanding; I just felt listened to.

Not once did I feel judged or under any pressure, I was just really thankful that I didn’t have to go through it on my own more. I now had choices on how I decided to take it forward to fit in with work. If I could go back and give myself some advice before I actually started therapy, it would be just to do it sooner. If you’re feeling this way, then just reach out, there’s so much support out there, in so many different ways that you can access it.
